The Faculty of Agriculture & Forestry Gadjah Mada University was established  in 1952, then separately exist as the  independent Forestry faculty in 1963, amongst the oldest tertiary forestry education in Indonesia. Early development of the Faculty had been supported by the similar Professorial  from the Netherland who help in  establishing the Forestry Faculty at Bogor (Prof. Ir. PKM Steuf, Prof.Ir. C. Gartner, Prof.Ir. EHP Juta, Prof.Ir. F Versteegh, Prof.Ir. AH  Verkuyl and Dipl.Ing. Hollerworger).

Forestry education is designed to produce foresters who have a love for natural resources, and high capacity in forest management, reforestation, forest utilization, forest product technology or forest resource conservation. Through forest development and forestry for society’s welfare, the graduates will participate significantly in the development of the state and nation. The Diploma Program of Forestry strives to fill the job market demands for junior professionals with skills in maintaining, preserving and developing the forest, river basins and the resources obtained from forestland.

The Faculty of Forestry maintains international cooperation with ITTO, ICRAF, OECF, CIFOR, AusAID, USAID, EU, Monbusho, JICA, Ford Foundation, etc.

Our Faculty consists of four Departments (Study Programs) which supported by several laboratories (as indicated within the parenthesis)

Department of Forest Management (Forest Planning & Development, Forest Resources Economics, Computing & Biometrics, Forest Harvesting,  Forest Mapping and Geospatial Information, Ecology & Socio-economics of Forest Resources)

Department of Silviculture (Silviculture & Agroforestry, Forest Health & Protection, Tree Improvement, Tree Physiology, Dendrology, Forest Soils)

Department of Forest Product Technology (Wood Structure & Properties, Fibre & Wood Chemistry, Wood Drying & Preservation, Wood Machinery & Composite, Non-wood Forest Products, Biomass Energy)

Department of Forest Resources Conservation (Wildlife Management, Watershed Management, Ecotourisms, Forest Ecology, Forest Conservation)
